Consistently ranked as one of South Australia’s leading corporate lawyers, our business’s founder has over 25 years’ experience in corporate and equity capital markets law.
As the name suggests, John is the founder of Kain Lawyers, but that is just one string to his bow. Since 1990 he has developed an enviable reputation in M&A, corporate and equity capital markets law, consistently being named one of South Australia’s leading corporate lawyers.
Why that reputation? While many lawyers will talk about commercially relevant advice, John has the hands-on experience to back it up. That experience dates back to 1988, when whilst still at university, John co-founded the Newpin Industrial Cleaning Company. Since then he has founded or co-founded seven successful companies – including Kain Lawyers, the Kain Foundation, two ASX listed companies and a private investment company.
John believes that it’s his ongoing roles as Chair of three of these companies that keeps his commercial skills honed. That and his market-leading skills in corporate law have given him the rare ability to view and apply the law through a commercial lens.
John counts among his career highlights his lead role in the listing of Blue Sky Alternative Investments – Australia’s only listed alternative asset manager – and its subsequent success under his Chairmanship. Since listing in 2012 with $125 million under management and a market cap of $35million, Blue Sky has grown to more than $2 billion under management and a market cap of more than $300 million.
