Kain Lawyers, along with event partners Alcidion, Bionomics, Ellex and RHS welcomed approximately 650 people from the South Australian business community for the second ASX-Listed Companies Breakfast at the Adelaide Convention Centre yesterday.
To borrow a phrase from one of the presenters, Dr Deborah Rathjen: It begins with a story. This year’s story was the increasing importance of the Health and Medical Industry to the South Australian economy, as highlighted by the four ASX-Listed, South Australian headquartered presenting companies: Alcidion, Bionomics, Ellex and RHS.
Kain Lawyers Managing Director and MC, John Kain, opened with some global and Australian statistics in relation to population growth, ageing population demographics and projected expenditures on Health Care through to 2050, setting the scene for the four company presenters.
After each presenter provided their company’s story, the overwhelming message from the panel discussion was that to grow a global company, particularly in the BioMedical space, investors (and investment advisors) need to understand that patience is a virtue when it comes to growing businesses. The technology and expertise are already in place, but to retain these homegrown companies in South Australia, and to grow the next billion dollar business, it will take patient capital.
The aim of the breakfast was to highlight the unique proposition offered by each of Alcidion, Bionomics, Ellex and RHS to satisfy an unmet demand in significant addressable healthcare markets, while also reminding the South Australian investment community that they have an important part to play in growing local success stories. The overwhelming feedback on the event was that this aim was achieved.
Thank you to all who attended and special thanks to each of the company presenters: Rebecca Wilson, Non-Executive Director of Alcidion (ASX:ALC); Dr Deborah Rathjen, CEO and MD of Bionomics (ASX:BNO); Dr Meera Verma, Director of Ellex (ASX:ELX); and Michelle Fraser, CEO and MD of RHS (ASX:RHS).
The event wrap video is available here. We look forward to seeing you again in 2019!
