Adelaide entrepreneur wins priceless experience in quirky legal comp

Adelaide entrepreneur Ben Corbett has won himself a “money can’t buy” trip to Uganda plus up to $30,000 in free legal services thanks to a competition with a difference run by Kain C+C Lawyers.

The competition, launched at a networking function for The Engine Room in December last year, required entrants to put together a five-minute video outlining why they wanted to join the Kain C+C Charitable Foundation on its annual philanthropic trip to Uganda, plus what they looked for in a lawyer.

The Kain C+C judging panel was not disappointed when Ben’s entry arrived.

“We were very impressed with the cleverness and creativity of Ben’s video,” said John Kain, Managing Director at Kain C+C Lawyers.

“Most importantly, it was clear that Ben’s values aligned with our own and that he would both contribute to and learn a lot from the trip,” he said.

Executive Officer of the Kain C+C Charitable Foundation Eliza Le Messurier agrees.

“I think Ben did an excellent job of unpacking the idea of values and subtly tying this together with his own and those of the Foundation and the legal business.

“In fact, I learnt something about myself which is always a stellar sign of a well-articulated idea. We’re looking forward to having him on the trip,” she said.

And Ben couldn’t be more excited.

“I literally jumped out of my chair when I heard the news that I had won.

“It’s pretty rare to find lawyers that think outside the box by offering these types of development opportunities to business owners. I can’t wait for the trip.

“I have always had a huge amount of respect for Kain C+C Lawyers based on their continuous involvement in the business community in South Australia. I look forward to working closely with them to improve our business,” he said.

The competition was open to all members of The Engine Room, a networking and professional development hub for South Australian company owners of which Kain C+C is a major sponsor.

Kain C+C is aligned with The Engine Room because its members represent the dynamic businesses that they are most interested in working with.

“We believe we can provide value to The Engine Room members to help them grow, learn, achieve funding and obtain ‘money can’t buy’ experiences, such as this life-changing trip to Uganda,” John Kain said.

Ben Corbett is a director at LeetGeek, an Adelaide-based tech company which was recently named in the BRW Fast 100. You can view his video entry here.
